Daisy & Simon's Parenthood Journey Begins
We are excited to announce that two of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel have started the journey into parenthood. This journey is a bit tricky to navigate as it requires a few steps before becoming pregnant. Below we explain just a bit of the process so far and what the next steps will be.
Meet Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Daisy✨
She is our female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who's shy, active, super sweet, loving, gives extra cuddles, and loves to swim when it is warm.
Simon 🤩
He is our male AKC Grand Champion Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that loves walks, trips to the beach, and a bone to finish it all off! He is known to be spunky, loving, and playful.
Daisy and Simon are hoping to be parents the artificial way. Daisy and Simon are nervous about the procedure (as well as their humans). They are now at the age and health levels needed to undergo artificial insemination. Artificial insemination can be tricky, with the way the eggs float around until attaching to the uterus, creating a 50-50 chance the procedure works or does not work.
This process is not entirely easy. Once the sperm is retracted from Simon, we need Daisy to be fully ready to be able to inject the sperm. Throughout their process, on our first trip to the MD, Simon was reluctant to allow the vet to extract his sperm. Therefore, it took two visits until Simon was ready. Next was Daisy's turn. On the first visit to the vet, she was not ready. The female's cells are checked for cornification, which tells us she is in estrus. Then, they check progesterone levels to determine the day she ovulates, and then they inseminate the third day after ovulation. It took three visits for us to inseminate Daisy. Now we will wait to see if she is pregnant. We will not know if the sperm worked until 30 days.
We are patiently waiting to return to the vet to find the results.
